Nutritional Labelling
By Chef Jen Labelling:
At By Chef Jen we care about making your food healthy as well as delicious. We want to look after your meals and your bodies.
We have worked in partnership with nutritionist Hannah Norris, to provide labels for each meal so if you are looking for anything in particular like low saturated fat, low calorie or high protein you can find these easily.
-
All of our meals provide at least 20g of protein with many providing over 35g and up to 50g!
-
All of our meals provide one third to a half of your daily fibre needs
-
Almost all of our meals provide at least 2 of your 5 a day
-
Many of our meals are naturally low in saturated fat and sugar
Our Labels and what they mean
<500 kcal
These are our lower calorie meals providing 500 kcal or less
Anything not labeled with this will be no more than 700kcal
HIGH PROTEIN
All of our meals are a source of protein providing 20g of protein or more, but the meals labeled “High protein” provide 35g protein or more.
Read more on protein here.
FIBRE
All our meals provide around 1/3rd of your daily fibre needs or more.
A source of fibre technically provides 1.5g fibre per 100kcal in a meal.
High fibre technically provides 3g fibre per 100kcal in a meal.
Read more on fibre and how much you need here.
LOW SAT FAT
For meals low in saturated fats, read more about saturated fat here
Any meal with this label has less than 10% of the energy coming from saturated fat and less than 1.5g saturated fat per 100g
Portions of fruit and veg
Government guidelines suggest around 80g of fruit or vegetable including tinned, frozen and dried, count as 1 portion. To make it easy for you to ensure you are getting enough fruit & veg, we’ve added the portions as labels.
Note, potato is technically a vegetable, but only one portion can be counted daily. For this reason we are not counting white potato in the veg count.

Gluten & Dairy: Other things to know
We label all of the allergens in our meals including gluten, dairy, nuts etc. and so whilst we do not label our meals “gluten free” or “dairy free” due to strict legislation, there are many meals made with ingredients that naturally don’t contain these allergens. Our kitchen does handle nuts, dairy, gluten, fish etc so we can't label or guarantee any of our meals to be free from any allergens.
